PRODUCT INFO
The SX-E (Extended) is the third iteration of our SX line of MSX FPGA machines. It is the evolution of our SX-2 bringing many new features into the table. Based on the One Chip MSX, the SX-E has about double the FPGA size compared with its predecessor, the SX-2 (and about 5.5 times bigger than the original OCM).
The SX-E operates in two modes, as NATIVE MSX machine (just like the SX-2, One Chip MSX, Zemmix Neo, etc) and MULTICORE mode, in which you can not only use it as a MSX machine but also load other FPGA configuration files and have it running as different retro-computers and game consoles, most notably Sega Megadrive, Nintendo SNES, Sega Master System, Neo-Geo, Amiga 1200, Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, among others. There are a number of Arcade cores available too.
In NATIVE mode the unit behaves just like a SX-2/OCM: Instant booting, full MSX2+ machine with regular MSX joysticks ports, the well known DIP switches in the bottom of the unit for managing different settings, two hard cartridge ports fully MSX compatible, etc. If your intention is to use it as a MSX-Only machine this is the mode you probably want to be running it.
MULTICORE mode will allow you to load different configuraton cores other than MSX through a boot menu. There are many different cores available. When running as multicore the settings/configurations of each core is managed through OSD (on screen display) menu. Core files are selected and loaded directly from the SD card and will configure the machine on-the-fly.You can toggle between NATIVE MSX and MULTICORE mode with the flip of a switch.
